MLB Power Rankings

D. Heath

This will be Press Box Sports very first MLB Power Rankings. Below are our power rankings for all 30 teams with a little bit of info on some of the top 10 or so teams as well as my thoughts on one other team - you'll see below. These rankings will be done each week and are based on standings, win/loss record, star power, how they played that week, and just a little bit of bias...

  1. Astros - Not really much explanation here, even if they did split a four game series with the Sox last week.

  2. Dodgers - I've never been big fans, even of Cody Bellinger's. However what he is doing is ridiculous. Can anyone remember why he ended up being a fourth round pick??

  3. Twins - Not completely sold on these guys yet, especially in a weak AL Central, but they could do some damage this year. It's hard to argue with a team that is leading the majors in home runs and fewest strikeouts on offense. Great game last night against our number 5 team last night!

  4. Cubs - Don't have much to say about them except star power, Javy, etc.. I will say it's been pretty crazy how they can find ways to win games. They were down by 7 yesterday to the Phillies and it still never felt like they were out of it.

  5. Brewers - Even without Christian Yelich, these guys can hit. If their starting pitching keeps throwing late into enough games before guys like Hader and Jeffress come in to the game, watch out. In my opinion, they are just one relief and starting pitcher away.

  6. Yankees - Refer to my latest article on these guys. Long story short, watch out for these guys when their stars return from injury.

  7. Rays - I don't know much about this team except for the fact they've been keeping pace with their division a lot better than I expected.

  8. Red Sox - This is another team I could've written about for my "Well that didn't last long" article. They have really turned it around, now three games above 0.500.

  9. Phillies - I can't get a handle on these guys. One weekend they're taking care of the Brewers, the next they're blowing leads against the Cubs, albeit two very good teams. They just seem streaky to me and that means they could find the wrong streak at the wrong time.

  10. Braves - Three words: Ronald Acuna Jr.

  11. Cardinals - These guys seem to have really fallen off after battling for the lead in the NL Central. However, they have a lot of stars and young talent that they will probably stay in it all season.

  12. Athletics

  13. Indians

  14. Padres

  15. Diamondbacks

  16. Reds

  17. Pirates

  18. Rangers

  19. Angles

  20. White Sox - I have them higher on my list than a lot of people but for good reason. Eloy came back and hit three home runs in two games. Tim Anderson is still the man and Giolito just threw his second straight shutout - this one being a complete game against the top team in the league.

  21. Mets

  22. Rockies

  23. Nationals

  24. Blue Jays

  25. Mariners

  26. Giants

  27. Tigers

  28. Royals

  29. Marlins

  30. Orioles

See you next week!
