I Really, Really Like Ryan Pace

Some news this morning out of Halas Hall:

While not a gigantic story I do think there are a few underlying positives with this news. Goldman joins Bears OL Kyle Long in being two players this offseason who have restructured some part of their contract. So that tells me a few things:

1) Seeing players restructure their contracts whether to remain with the team (Kyle Long) or just free up some extra money (Goldman), that tells me that there is a good culture around the franchise right now and guys want to be there. Quite a good sign after the last few years before last where the Bears were so incompetent from top to bottom.

2) Goldman's restructure should put the Bears at around $20 million in cap to play with in free agency which will surely allow them to keep one of their own free agents hitting the market in Nickel-back Bryce Callahan or Safety Adrian Amos. Potentially both if one of them takes a little bit of a pay cut. Amos could net anywhere between $10-$13 million annually and Callahan $8-$9 million annually. Players can begin negotiating their contracts today, and can officially sign their contracts Wednesday. If I had to chose one, I think I would go with Callahan but retaining either would be awesome.

3) I think above all, we continue to see that Ryan Pace is willing to be aggressive and creative in helping keep the Bears a winner. Whether it was trading up for Mitch, trading multiple first rounders for Kahlil Mack, or going in on free agents such as Allen Robinson, Pace continues to go for it and ensures that he does everything he can to bring the Lombardi trophy back to the Chicago.

178 days from kickoff! We can do it.
